SOMETHING OUR LEGISLATORS CAN AGREE ON
They approved a $4,400 raise for themselves.

WASHINGTON (AP) – June 27, 2007 – Despite record-low approval ratings, House lawmakers Wednesday voted to accept an approximately $4,400 pay raise that will increase their salaries to almost $170,000.

The cost-of-living raise gets lawmakers back on track for automatic pay raises after a fight between Democrats and Republicans last year and again in January killed the pay hike due this year. That was the first interruption of the annual congressional pay hike in seven years.

PANTIES
I was at a 7-11 the other day in Catonsville buying water and Gatorade before a ride.  This neighborhood is a little … what’s the word.  It’s kind of a mix between Dundalk (pre-blacksposion),  Glen Burnie, Pasadena — that southeast Baltimore + Anne Arundel County vibe.  Camaros, long stringy hair, heavy metal T-shirts.  And then there’s the university-affiliated immigrants who are in the area because it’s near UMBC.

Anyway, I’m at the counter, right.  And there’s a girl in front of me or next to me, to my right.  I do a quick visual scan and my eye sees bare skin.  So you know.  This calls for a re-scan to gather more information.  Kind of pretty, young (make that too young, I’d guess 14 or 15), dressed for summer … ALERT ALERT.  I look down and she’s not wearing any pants or shorts.  My brain says, she must be wearing a bathing suit.  I look again as casually as I can and she’s wearing something but it ain’t no bathing suit bottom.  It’s a little too loose for a bathing suit.  She’s wearing pink cotton panties with a heart and some design on them.  Like a little girl would wear.

I made a decision to not look at her as she walked out of the store.  The young clerk was watching, though.  By the way, this is literally the only 7-11 I know of where white people or non-Indian or Middle Eastern people work.  I think the girl got into a minivan and then it drove off.

Who lets their daughter or any teenage girl walk into a store wearing her underwear?  Weird, man.

And now for something completely different…

Here’s what I was looking for.

September 30, 2003
Leaks of classified information are a bad thing.

I want to know who it is.  If the person has violated the law the person will be taken care of.

This is a serious charge, by the way.  We’re talking about a criminal action.

I want to know the truth.  That’s why I’ve instructed this staff … to cooperate fully with the investigators.

June 12, 2004
If somebody did leak classified information I’d like to know it and we’ll take the appropriate action.  And this investigation is a good thing.

If someone committed a crime they will no longer work in my administration.

A jury of his peers convicted him and we’ve got to respect that conviction.

WHAT TONY SAID
Thanks for the comment, Tonysan.  Yeh, man.  The media would rather talk about ANYTHING else than the important issues.  Paris Hilton, Tiger Woods, iPhones, Transformers, Rosie O’Donnell.  And of course all manner of local or regional violence.  It’s like their mission is to keep us all too scared to leave the house and then feed our minds with empty calories.

Even with this ridiculous Presidential campaign, they’re dealing with everything but what matters.  It’s sad.  Slowly but surely, more people are getting their news from blogs and BBC or alternative outlets because the one thing you won’t get from American mainstream media is informed.  The closest we get is someone spinning facts like a dradle … and then someone spinning in the other direction.  Or you get rabid pundits barking at each other with talking points and sound bites.  95% old, rich white guys who are predisposed to a certain kind of practical conservatism.

The news media, journalism, is supposed to be another check against the abuse of power in this democratic republic.  Since General Electric  and Westinghouse, defense contractors, own NBC and CBS, respectively, how do we expect to get accurate reporting when we’re, say, headed for or in the midst of war.

I won’t even try to explain the inbreeding amongst the boards of directors for these media and defense contractor corporations.  But this guy does:  http://eatthestate.org/03-20/DirectorsFees.htm
