Doctor My Eyes

Okay.  I wrote a ranting blog that I haven’t published yet.  I figured it’d be better to sit on it for a bit and then edit to remove any overt asshole-ness.

But I saw something today that made me lose it.  At work, quietly losing it, unable to vent.  My … goodness.

Lawmakers steamed over ritzy AIG retreat after bailout

Here’s a quote:

Days after it got a federal bailout, American International Group Inc. spent $440,000 on a posh California retreat for its executives, complete with spa treatments, banquets and golf outings, according to lawmakers investigating the company’s meltdown.

Robert Willumstad, former CEO of AIG, testifies before the U.S. House in Washington on Tuesday.

AIG sent its executives to the coastal St. Regis resort south of Los Angeles, California, even as the company tapped into an $85 billion loan from the government it needed to stave off bankruptcy.

The resort tab included $23,380 worth of spa treatments for AIG employees, according to invoices the resort turned over to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Aiiiiggh!

Oh my brain.

THE EYES HAVE IT

Went to the eye doctor today.  Saw a picture of my retinas.  Cool.  Everything’s still healthy.  New glasses should be ready in a week.  First new eyewear in ten years.  And not much deterioration, apparently.  Don’t know how that’s possible.

And I got contacts.

Once again, I feel sorry for anyone who doesn’t have health care.  The cost of today’s visit was about $450.  With a health plan.  Ouch.

I could not get the contacts in my eyes.  The nurse sat with me to train me for, like, twenty minutes.  I couldn’t do it.  Stupid blinking.  I actually had the contact on my eye.  Touching.   Almoooost got it.  So close.  Move to the left a lit… BLINK!  Damn it!

I have another appointment scheduled for more training.  😦
